Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has taken a swipe at Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the team around him at Old Trafford, accusing them of being inexperienced when it comes to doing deals.

Perez and Real Madrid have been left unhappy at the collapse of David de Gea's move to the Bernabeu, which fell apart when the paperwork relating to the transfer was only all complete past the Spanish transfer deadline.

The Real Madrid supremo does not understand why Manchester United waited so long to deal for De Gea and believes inexperience at Old Trafford cost Los Blancos the signature of De Gea.

He also pointed to the examples of Manchester United trying and failing to sign Ander Herrera and Fabio Coentrao on transfer deadline days in recent seasons as further proof the hierarchy responsible for closing deals at the Red Devils are coming up short.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Perez explained: "I think what they lack is experience. It happened last year with Coentrao, exactly the same.

"And it happened with Ander Herrera and Athletic Bilbao. They have a new team and they lack experience", the Real Madrid supremo continued.

"We have missed out on players before, Franck Ribery and Patrick Vieira for example, but what is surprising is that someone wants to do a deal and only starts the process 12 hours before.

"It is the inexperience of the new people in charge.

"We have worked with them before [with success], with Peter Kenyon and David Gill and with Sir Alex Ferguson.

"We still have good relationship with Manchester United but this is the exactly the same as happened before with Coentrao and Herrera and we thought they would have learned from what happened in the past."

De Gea is now marooned at Manchester United, though the Red Devils have indicated the wish to reintegrate him into their side by including him in their Champions League group stage squad.

The goalkeeper could now sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer when his contract at Old Trafford expires.
