Napoli midfielder Jonathan de Guzman’s agent admits that his client had offers to leave the San Paolo this summer.

The former Swansea midfielder had multiple opportunities to return to the Premier League late in the summer window, but decided against leaving the San Paolo.

Sunderland were keen to take him to the Stadium of Light and were in advanced talks to get the deal done, before the Dutchman had a change of heart about the move.

After snubbing Sunderland, his agent was in talks with Premier League new boys Bournemouth, but again the player decided against leaving Napoli at the last moment.

The Serie A outfit were keen to offload him and his agent, Fabio Parisi, admits that his client had offers to leave the San Paolo this summer.

However, he revealed that the Dutch midfielder, after assessing the offers, felt staying at Napoli beyond the transfer window was the more sensible option.

“During the transfer window, a few opportunities [to leave Napoli] emerged for De Guzman”, Parisi told Radio Crc.

“The player made some assessments and did not see fit to accept the offers; he decided to remain at Napoli.”

The 27-year-old is not believed to be a big part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans for the season and is yet to play a minute of football this term.
