Celtic midfielder Stefan Johansen believes that there has never been any doubt about Jo Inge Berget's quality.

Berget spent time on loan at Celtic from Cardiff City last year, but soon found himself on the fringes and departed Celtic Park after playing just a handful of games for Ronny Deila's side.

He is now at Malmo, where he helped knock Celtic out of the Champions League at the playoff round, while he also scored and powered Norway to a Euro 2016 qualifying win over Croatia on Sunday.

For Johansen, there has never been any doubt that Berget is a good player and now, full of confidence, he is showing it.

"He had a tough time at Cardiff, so he came to Celtic and stayed at my house for a few months", Johansen explained to TV2.

"It was eventually a new tough period.

"Now he's come to Malmo and become a new player – you can see what confidence does.

"There has never been any doubt about the quality he has. He is a fantastic player, but like everyone else he needs confidence", the midfielder added.

Berget will be enjoying Champions League football with Malmo this season, while Johansen has to make do with the Europa League with Celtic.

The two clubs could still meet again if Malmo exit the Champions League by finishing third in their group, dropping into the Europa League after Christmas, and Celtic are still involved.
