Arsenal legend Ian Wright says that Arsene Wenger has cost the Gunners a number of potential signings by dithering over whether to complete deals.

Wenger, whose Arsenal side lost 2-1 in their Champions League opener away against Dinamo Zagreb this evening, did not sign a single outfield player for the Gunners this summer.

In doing so, Arsenal were the only team in the major five European leagues not to reinforce their squad with an outfield player; Wenger signed only goalkeeper Petr Cech, from Chelsea.

Wright says in his time at Arsenal, Wenger had help from David Dein, while he also inherited a squad with a number of top players already in place.

And the former striker feels Wenger has become more indecisive about completing deals as the years have worn on.

Wright said on BT Sport: "I didn't find him stubborn, but maybe because the team we had at the time picked itself, with the back five that was already there.

"He just put Patrick [Vieira] in and Emmanuel Petit in. Dennis [Bergkamp] was already there as well.

"So he wasn't stubborn about anything there.

"I think as the years went by, without David Dein there to help him with who he was going to buy and the advice, he turned into somebody who is quite [indecisive].

"A lot of deals have not happened because of the stalling and the dithering."

Arsenal are next in action this coming weekend in the Premier League against Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, who beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 in the Champions League this evening.
