Jetro Willems has put his suitors on red alert by stalling on opening talks over a new contract with PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch Eredivisie outfit are desperate to extend Willems' contract at the Philips Stadion, which currently runs out in 2017.

PSV are concerned about being in a position next summer when Willems has only a year remaining on his deal, something which could place them in a weak position if clubs come calling for the left-back.

The defender is currently out with a knee injury and according to the Eindhovens Dagblad, will only consider whether or not to open new contract talks when he returns to action.

Willems has reached no decision over whether or not to extend his contract and has seen a number of team-mates leave for the Premier League in the shape of Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum.

The defender himself has been linked with Premier League clubs in recent years, a group that includes Liverpool and Manchester United.

And the Red Devils may be on the lookout for a new left-back in the new year given Luke Shaw broke his leg against PSV earlier this week.
