Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has launched a blistering attack on Papiss Cisse and Florian Thauvin for their performance in a 2-0 defeat to West Ham earlier this week.

Cisse clocked up all 90 minutes for the Magpies at Upton Park, while Thauvin lasted 60 minutes before being brought off by boss Steve McClaren.

Newcastle offered little throughout the match and now sit rock bottom of the Premier League despite splashing the cash in the summer.

Shearer is annoyed at his former team's showing and feels they would have been better playing with ten men than leaving Cisse on the pitch.

He told beIN Sports: "I watched Cisse and I immediately though that Newcastle would have been better with ten men.

"And it is not just Cisse.

"Thauvin showed absolutely nothing!" Shearer thundered.

Newcastle are stuck to the bottom of the Premier League table at present with only two points collected from their first five matches.

McClaren's men are next in action this coming weekend when they host newly promoted Watford at St. James' Park. They follow that match up with League Cup action, welcoming Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday.
