Rangers manager Mark Warburton would be fully prepared to welcome a sporting director to the club in the future, explaining that the demands of recruitment may mean such an appointment is needed.

Warburton worked as sporting director at English Championship side Brentford before then later stepping into the dugout to take charge.

He is currently working without a sporting director at Rangers, but fully concedes one may be needed as the Gers move forward and press the accelerator on their recruitment plans.

Speaking to BBC Scotland, Warburton said: "As we move to the next level and the demands of recruitment become ever more intense then maybe we have to look at that position.

"I think you have to look at that, how we build", he continued, before pointing out he has a full appreciation of what is required from a sporting director.

"I've done the sporting director's role, I know what's involved. You live on the phone 20 hours a day and the calls you have to make, the journeys you have to take.

"So to do that job properly, it demands full commitment", the Englishman concluded.

Rangers have hit the ground running this season and with ten wins from ten competitive games under Warburton, are red hot favourites to book a return to the Scottish top flight.

Club owner Dave King has spoken openly about Rangers preparing the ground to challenge Celtic next season by being on top of their player recruitment.
