Arsenal legend Tony Adams has revealed that he thought about leaving the Gunners when he was approached by Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 48-year-old spent his entire club career at Arsenal, going on to make 669 appearances for the Gunners, adding 32 goals to his name in the process and captaining title-winning sides across three decades.

The defender though admits that he was tempted to leave Arsenal at one point, insisting that he was indeed approached by the legendary Manchester United manager twice.

Adams in fact went on to concede that at one point in time he was close to opting for Old Trafford, but then Arsene Wenger arrived at the club.

And he was convinced by then chairman Peter Hill-Wood about the future at Arsenal under Wenger.

Speaking exclusively to Inside Futbol, Adams revealed: "Alex Ferguson wanted to sign me twice, just before Arsene Wenger came to the club.

"I was ready for a change and he was on to me every day.

"The chairman at the time, Peter Hill-Wood, convinced me that there was a good man on the way and that we were going to be ambitious financially."

Adams also revealed that Arsenal tripled his salary in a sign of their desire to keep him at the club.

"I found my salary tripled, which was amazing. Arsene came and the rest is history. I never felt the need after that to look anywhere else."
