PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands has rubbished talk that Manchester United are poised to pay €20m to sign left-back Jetro Willems.

The Red Devils have been hit by left-back Luke Shaw breaking his leg and being ruled out for around six months, something which has seen Louis van Gaal's men strongly linked with moving to bring in a replacement in the winter transfer window.

Willems has yet to sign a contract extension with PSV, despite the club being keen for him to do so.

And it had been suggested the left-back is in Van Gaal's sights.

But Brands was not mincing his words when asked about Manchester United making a €20m offer for the defender.

He told Dutch outlet Metro: "Nonsense".

PSV are determined to keep hold of Willems and have already lost one player to Manchester United, with Memphis Depay swapping the Philips Stadion for Old Trafford.

Willems' contract with the Dutch champions is scheduled to run until 2017.
