French midfielder Remy Cabella admits that he lost his love for football during his time at Newcastle United last season.

Following a successful spell at Montpellier, the 25-year-old joined the Magpies last summer and big things were expected from him last season.

However, Cabella badly struggled to get his career going at St. James’ Park and made very little impact, as Newcastle barely managed to survive in the Premier League in the 2014/15 campaign.

He joined Marseille on loan this summer and is hoping to reignite his career in the familiar climes of southern France.

While he is struggling to find a foothold at Marseille too, Cabella indicated that he is not keen to return to English football any time soon.

He admits that he is still trying to get into the groove of things this season at the Stade Velodrome, but feels it will take some time for him to recover from his torrid spell in the north east of England.

Speaking to Canal+, the Frenchman said: “England is not for me.

“Gradually I will come back [to form]. It is true that I am still lacking in rhythm, but I need to again start enjoying football.

“I kind of lost it because of my season with Newcastle.”

Cabella scored just once in 34 appearances for Newcastle and seems to be in no mood to return to the north east at the end of his loan spell at Marseille.
