Tottenham Hotspur linked striker Alexandre Pato has claimed that Manchester United made a dash for him on deadline day.

The former AC Milan striker was linked with a move away from Sao Paulo in the summer and there were rumours that Tottenham were closing in on a deal for the Brazil striker.

However, a move never materialised and Pato has continued to play his football in his homeland for Sao Paulo.

But it seems another English club were keen to take him to the British Isles, as Pato has claimed that Manchester United made a last minute bid for him on deadline day.

He indicated that he wasn’t aware at that time that Louis van Gaal’s men made an offer for him and he only came to know about its existence later.

“I will not lie but two hours before the transfer window closed, Manchester United made a very good offer”, Pato told SporTV.

“I was expecting [offers], but I only learned about it later.”

Despite Anthony Martial’s flying start to the campaign, many feel Manchester United are still short of numbers up front, but it seems the club did try to fix that issue in the last few hours of the window.
