Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is aware that Aston Villa have a good record at Anfield over the last few seasons, but stressed that the Reds need to get a win to put their campaign back on track.

The Reds have been on a dreadful run of form recently and are currently on a winless streak of four games in the league.

A draw against Norwich at home last weekend, coupled with a lackadaisical showing against League Two’s Carlisle in midweek, has further damaged the confidence of Brendan Rodgers men.

Skrtel acknowledged that their recent performances and results are just not acceptable and it is paramount that they put up a good show against Villa at Anfield today.

The Slovak believes three points against Tim Sherwood’s men will be crucial for the team’s confidence ahead of a tough run of games in October.

“A win could be massive for us”, Skrtel told the club’s official website.

“In the last three games, we have only picked up one point and that’s not enough.

“We know what we need to do better and we will definitely do that. If we can get the three points, it will be massive for our confidence to take into the next few games.”

The defender is also aware that Villa have done well at Anfield over the last few seasons, but he wants the Reds to put the record straight this time around.

Villa recorded a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield last season and are unbeaten in their last four visits to the famous stadium.

“We know from past seasons it’s not easy to play against them, especially at Anfield, but we want to win and get the three points because after the games against United, West Ham and Norwich we need them – and we will do everything possible to get them.”
