Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits he saw Robert Lewandowski's superb five goals in nine minutes feat earlier this week and dubbed it "unbelievable".

Van Gaal was watching the match between Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg as his Manchester United side host the Wolves at Old Trafford this coming Wednesday in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich were trailing 1-0 at half time, but Lewandowski blasted a remarkable five goals in a nine minute spell to put the Wolves on their back and secure a 5-1 Bundesliga victory.

Van Gaal says he knows feats such as that can happen and he was on the receiving end of something similar during his time managing Barcelona in Spain.

"Of course I saw, but I see also the first half and Wolfsburg were very strong", he told his club's site.

"It is unbelievable that it happens in nine minutes. I have seen it when I was at Barcelona and we play Valencia and we lost 3-4 having been leading 3-0, but that was in 15 minutes.

"A little bit less than the five in nine minutes!"

Lewandowski was on target again this weekend as he bagged a brace in Bayern Munich's 3-0 Bundesliga win away at Mainz.

Wolfsburg meanwhile played out a 1-1 draw at home with Hannover in advance of their trip to Old Trafford to face Van Gaal's men.
