Marinus Dijkhuizen says he is shocked to be out of a job at Championship side Brentford and feels that his time at the club was too short.

The head coach left his role earlier today following a 2-1 weekend defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at home, while his assistant has also departed Griffin Park.

Lee Carsley has been placed in charge until the end of the season and his first task will be to rouse Brentford to take on Birmingham City at Griffin Park on Tuesday evening.

Dijkhuizen has been left to ponder a spell in charge of the Bees which he feels was too short and he has spoken of his shock at his departure, hinting it came as a bolt from the blue.

The now former Bees boss wrote on Twitter: "Completely shocked by our resignation already!

Brentford sit 19th in the Championship this season after collecting just eight points from their opening eight matches.

The Bees are next in action this Tuesday when they face Birmingham and victory would push the side up to 15th.
