Arsenal and Manchester United linked striker Edinson Cavani has revealed that he has never wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

The forward’s future at the club was a constant source of speculation in the summer and he was linked with a move away from PSG throughout the transfer window.

Italian champions Juventus were keen to sign him and he was heavily mooted to be on his way to the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United both interested.

But ultimately the Uruguay international decided to stay put at PSG and revealed that he never thought about leaving the French champions in the first place.

While he admits that the future of a footballer is not always in his hands, he revealed that PSG have always valued him and that is the key reason why he never wanted to leave the club.

Speaking to French radio station RMC, the PSG striker said: “In football, there are many things that do not depend on the footballer, but the club.

“Often when a player decides to change clubs, it's not only his will. It is a decision reached in agreement with the club, seeking the best solution for both parties.

“PSG have always shown their desire to keep me, to make me an important part of their future. It is important for me as it gives me a lot of energy to work."

On the various rumours circling around his future at the club, the forward said: “For three years, too much has been said on things that never existed. My wish has always been to stay and meet the targets set by the club.

“Today I am happy in Paris.”

Cavani has started the 2015/16 season on the front foot and has already scored eight goals in ten appearances in all competitions for the Parisians.
