Barcelona star Lionel Messi is grateful for the messages of support he has received following his injury in a league match that has ruled him out for up to eight weeks.

Messi had to come off in the tenth minute of a league clash against Las Palmas on Saturday when he sustained an injury in his knee; and subsequent tests confirmed that the forward will be out of action for seven to eight weeks.

As a consequence, the Argentina national team captain will be out of tonight’s Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen as Barcelona prepare to host the Germans at the Camp Nou.

Messi has taken to his Facebook account to thank fans for the supportive messages they have sent him.

“Thank you all for your supportive messages”, he wrote.

He further added that it is hard for him to be ruled out of action for so long, emphasising that he is now focused on completing his recovery.

“For anyone who loves football, the hardest thing is not to be on the pitch.

“Now it's time to recover properly to come back.

“A big hug”, he concluded.
