Liverpool remain on the tail of Schalke forward Leroy Sane, a player they had an offer for knocked back over the summer transfer window.

The Reds are firm fans of the 19-year-old and lodged an offer of €15m for him in the summer, according to German magazine Sport Bild, but saw the Ruhr giants knock it back.

But Liverpool have not lost interest in the Germany Under-21 international and are determined to take him to Anfield in 2016.

Schalke do not want to lose Sane however, especially after selling Julian Draxler to Wolfsburg in the summer, and are prepared to fight to keep him at the club.

Sane is a product of Schalke's youth system and has long been tipped to make an impact at the highest level of the game.

The 19-year-old has featured regularly for Schalke this season, clocking up nine appearances in all competitions so far, scoring three goals and providing a single assist.

Sane, who represented Germany at Under-19 level, is locked down on a contract with Schalke until the summer of 2019, putting the Bundesliga side in a strong position to resist his departure.

The forward was chased by clubs at as young an age as 17, with Ajax offering €5m for his signature, but failing to land the starlet.
