Chelsea, Everton and Sunderland were among a clutch of clubs to send scouts to take in the UEFA Youth League clash between Malmo and Real Madrid yesterday.

Malmo's youngsters locked horns with their esteemed counterparts Real Madrid and produced a superb performance to run out 1-0 winners, against all odds.

The Swedish club may have been concerned to note however that a whole host of scouts from some of Europe's biggest clubs were represented in the stands.

Indeed, according to Swedish outlet Sydsvenskan, Chelsea, Sunderland, Everton, Lille, Paris Saint-Germain, Brondby, Atalanta, Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen and Marseille all sent talent spotters to the match.

Bayern Munich's scout Bjorn Andersson admitted after the match he was impressed by what he saw from Malmo's youngsters.

"Swedish quality was helped by a strong defence", he told Sydsvenskan.

"Who can take the next step remains to be seen.

"It is then necessary to have the right mentality and the ability to handle the pressure."

Malmo's senior side were unable to match their young counterparts and slipped to a 2-0 home defeat to Real Madrid which, combined with their opening group game Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, leaves them still looking for their first points.
