Celtic boss Ronny Deila has defended Efe Ambrose following his mistake which allowed Fenerbahce to score in a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park this evening.

The Bhoys went in front after 28 minutes when Leigh Griffiths showed quick reactions following a corner, hitting a shot into the back of the net after a header by Mikael Lustig.

Griffiths saw his initial shot saved by the Fenerbahce goalkeeper, but was on hand to convert the rebound.

Then only five minutes later Celtic were 2-0 up after Kris Commons got on the end of a James Forrest shot to fire high into the back of the net.

Fenerbahce pegged Celtic back before half time through Fernandao, who took advantage of slopping defending from defender Efe Ambrose to grab a goal.

And three minutes into the second half, Fenerbahce were level as Fernandao struck again, making it 2-2, after he rose high to head in from a corner.

It ended 2-2, with Ambrose having made a crucial mistake, but Celtic boss Deila was not in the mood to criticise the defender.

"When you are defending you need to keep concentration for 90 minutes", Deila said in a press conference.

"For 88 minutes he was very good."

And for the Celtic manager, his side played well on the whole and taking a point is something he is happy enough to do.

"I think we had very good control of the game in the first half. In the second half we were too deep at the start, but we made some changes. When we have the ball we are a good team.

"We played well in the first half. They got the goal and that gave them energy. It was disappointing that they scored from almost the two chances that they had. I'm disappointed that we didn't win, but I'm happy that we got the point."
