Monaco captain Jeremy Toulalan admits that Anthony Martial’s form at Manchester United has been infuriating for him.

Manchester United paid a hefty fee of around €50m to Monaco on transfer deadline day to prise the 19-year-old forward away from France.

Despite the early criticism around his price tag, Martial has taken English football by storm and has already scored four times in six appeaerances for the club.

Initially considered an investment for the future, the Frenchman has already carved out a starting spot in Louis van Gaal’s team and is already a crucial part of his plans for this season.

Toulalan admits that it has been difficult for him to watch Martial to do so well for Manchester United, but he has wished him all the luck for the future.

“When you see what he is doing right now, it is infuriating for us and that is good for him”, the Monaco captain was quoted as saying by L’Equipe.

“I wish him the best [for his future].”

While there has been little doubt about his qualities since his days at Lyon, Toulalan admits that the way Martial has quickly settled at Manchester United has taken everyone by surprise.

However, he admits that he is not too surprised by the Frenchman’s rise and feels he will keep surprising people with his qualities in the coming weeks in England.

“Everyone was surprised by his integration at United, but he has enormous qualities and everyone knew about it at Monaco, as well as at Lyon.

“When you are good player like him, I am not surprised [by his start]. There is a lot of talent and he is a good person. He is always listening and he will keep surprising.”
