Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon’s agent has rubbished the recently published list of footballers nominated for the FIFA Ballon d’Or.

A 59-man list has come out into public domain and along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, it also includes dubious names such as Bournemouth's Christian Atsu and QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo.

It also includes the likes of Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney, Memphis Depay and even Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina finds himself amongst the stellar company.

Juventus won Serie A last season and also made it to the Champions League final, which is reflected by the inclusion of players such as Giorgio Chiellini, Paul Pogba and Alvaro Morata.

However, Buffon’s heroics in guarding their goal last season went unnoticed and his agent not at all impressed by the snub his client received.

While he conceded his client might not have won the award, he feels that looking at some of the names on the list, his client at least deserved a nomination.

Speaking to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Silvano Martina said: “I do not know if he would have won, so it has little meaning.

“But the names that we have [on the list] and the fact that Gianluigi isn’t there, speaks for itself.

“Name me one goalkeeper who did better than him last season in all competitions.”

At 37, Buffon has continued to defy age and is still Juventus’ first choice goalkeeper, keeping the younger Neto out of the first eleven.
