Ajax coach Frank de Boer is open to taking over at Liverpool or Newcastle United, two clubs he feels have passionate supporters.

De Boer was approached by Liverpool's American owners FSG in 2012, but he knocked back the chance to talk to the Reds after learning he was only one of a number of managers contacted.

Liverpool subsequently appointed Brendan Rodgers, who has spent a third of a billion pounds on players; the Reds finished sixth last season.

De Boer saw PSV Eindhoven win the Dutch Eredivisie title last term and is focused on helping Ajax to regain their crown in the current campaign.

However, he makes no bones about the fact that managing in the Premier League would be a welcome move, with a special nod towards Liverpool and Newcastle.

"I’m looking maybe for another adventure. If there is an interesting club that I think OK, with my quality I can make that team better; if I can, than I will take that chance", De Boer continued.

"They [Liverpool and Newcastle] are fantastic clubs.

"Liverpool and Newcastle, with supporters behind them, it is a fantastic environment to coach, but this year it is important for me to do well at Ajax and then we will see."

At Liverpool, Rodgers has come under pressure following a poor start to the season for the Reds, while Newcastle have yet to win a Premier League match under Steve McClaren, who was appointed in the summer.
