Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that former AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia is training with the club at the moment.

Thibaut Courtois picked up a knee injury in training last month and has been sidelined for an extended period of time, which has thrown Chelsea into a mini goalkeeping crisis.

Asmir Begovic is currently the club’s number one and 21-year-old custodian Jamal Blackman has assumed the role of being the number two goalkeeper in the squad.

However, Mourinho is not seem to be comfortable with the situation and has revealed that he is trying to bring in another new goalkeeper as cover for the position.

The Chelsea boss added that former AC Milan custodian Amelia is training with the club and is being considered as an option until Courtois returns to the team.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Mourinho explained: “Yes, we are trying [to bring in another goalkeeper as cover].

“We have at this moment Marco Amelia with us, working with us for a couple of days, he is an experienced goalkeeper, he knows what a big club is, he knows the responsibility, he has played at a big club, in the Champions League.

“In the last few months he has not played so much, but what we need is some cover, some stability until Courtois is back and maybe he is the guy to give us that.

“We were analysing and with what we had in our hands we decided Marco could be a good option for us.”

An Italy international, the 33-year-old has played for clubs such as AC Milan, Palermo and Livorno, but has been without a club since August.

He earned nine international caps for the Azzurri.
