Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels that Arsenal are never going to win the Champions League and as a result may be doing themselves a favour by booking an early exit from the competition.

The Gunners have lost their opening two Champions League group games, going down to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos respectively, and next up have two fixtures against Bayern Munich.

Arsene Wenger's men shrugged off their European blues to blow Manchester United away 3-0 earlier today at the Emirates Stadium and Carragher feels a Champions League exit could help the Gunners push for the title.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "Manchester United look short in certain areas, Chelsea look well off the pace. There's only Man City really who look like the standout team, but even they [haven’t been at their best].

"Arsenal are never going to win the Champions League with this team, they always get knocked out in the quarter-finals at best, so if they go out earlier it may actually be an advantage for them", the former defender continued.

"It may actually work for them."

However, Carragher admits that even if Arsenal do exit Europe, they will need a slice of luck as Manchester City have the best team in the league.

But with their rivals set to spend again next summer, this season could represent Arsenal's best chance to capture the crown, he feels.

"They will need things to go for them this season if they're going to win the league. They're not the best team, that's Man City.

"It [a Champions League exit] may give them a great chance this season. Next season Chelsea will be back, they'll spend big again, United will spend big again.

"This might be a season for them. Arsenal need to win a title, that has to be their main aim."

The Gunners' comfortable win over Manchester United has put them up to second spot in the Premier League with 16 points from their eight games, two behind leaders Manchester City.
