Brendan Rodgers has stressed that there is a constant rebuilding job under way at Liverpool following his side's 1-1 draw away at rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby today.

Liverpool carried more attacking threat from the off at Goodison Park, but Everton did enjoy good spells of possession themselves.

It was the Reds who took the lead when Danny Ings headed in from a corner in the 42nd minute.

Ings was left unmarked and made no mistake from close range, putting Liverpool 1-0 up.

But Liverpool's lead did not last long and following a cross from Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu, a shocking attempt at defending allowed Romelu Lukaku to stroke the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out.

The match was hard-fought in the second half and Lucas Leiva could have seen red following a series of poor challenges when on a yellow card, something which caused Rodgers to then substitute the Brazilian.

Everton pegged Liverpool back near the end as they searched for a winner, but it ended 1-1.

For Rodgers, his side did well and he was quick to express his pride at their performance.

He told Sky Sports: "I thought that we were the better team in first half, a real threat and we deservedly took lead. I'm disappointed with the goal as it was a mistake.

"In the second half, we knew we would come under pressure and the game became counter-attacking for us. I'm proud of the players."

Rodgers claims his players were highly motivated to head to Goodison Park and grab a win, but he takes comfort from the fact he feels his side are improving with every game played.

"The motivation of the players was very high to come here. We know we are improving with each game. We can still be better with our passing. In the second half, we didn't keep the ball well enough when we won it back.

"It is a very good point. It is a difficult place to come. We looked like we were getting better in our attack and defensively we were more cohesive."

Overall for Rodgers, there is the sense that his job at Liverpool is a rebuilding one and he swatted away any notion of being under pressure.

"There's no pressure for me. My worry is for the team and you have seen a response of how they feel.

"This is a team which has lost four of the real catalysts and there is a constant rebuilding [job] going on here."
