Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that Arsenal striker Theo Walcott deserves the standing ovation he got while being replaced by team-mate Olivier Giroud late in the second half in his side's match today.

The Gunners ran out 3-0 winners against their rivals Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium, starting the game at a blistering pace, killing their opponents off within just the first 19 minutes of the game.

Walcott, who was playing as a striker, was clinical in providing his team-mates with two assists and was also instrumental in making life difficult for the Manchester United defenders.

Praising the England international for his impressive display during the course of the match, Jenas insisted that Walcott deserves every bit of praise he is getting along with the other goalscorers.

"Theo Walcott has been brilliant, he got two assist and made life difficult for the United back four, he deserves the standing ovation", Jenas was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Speaking about the Gunners' counter-attacking strategy after going 3-0 up, the former midfielder stated that there was absolutely no reason for Arsene Wenger's team to go on the attack once they were ahead comfortably.

Rather the approach they opted for, to break on the counter attack, was the right thing to do given the situation they were in within the first 20 minutes of the game.

"You are 3-0 up and do not want to push it too far; Arsenal know they can play on the counter-attack it is up to Manchester United to break them down."
