In a further sign he is set to succeed Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has sounded out countryman Dietmar Hamann about life in the city.

Rodgers had his contract terminated by Liverpool yesterday after the Reds drew 1-1 against Everton at Goodison Park.

Liverpool instantly targeted Klopp as his replacement and the former Borussia Dortmund boss has given encouraging signs over his willingness to take over at Anfield.

According to the BBC, Klopp has already spoken to Hamann, questioning the former Liverpool midfielder about the club, the city and the fans.

Hamann, a former Germany international, turned out for Liverpool between 1999 and 2006.
