Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson feels that Jurgen Klopp would be the right man to lead the Reds, adding that his philosophy of developing players fits well with that of the club’s owners.

Klopp had a successful seven-year spell with Borussia Dortmund of the German Bundesliga before it came to an end at the conclusion of last season, and during his stint at Signal Iduna Park, he guided the club to two league titles, a DFB Pokal and also to the final of the Champions League in 2013.

Since the sacking of Brendan Rodgers from the post of Liverpool manager in the aftermath of yesterday’s draw against Everton, Klopp has been touted as the frontrunner to take up the reins of the Merseyside giants.

The German, who is currently on a self-imposed sabbatical from the game, developed several players during his stint at the Ruhr outfit, would be well suited to the model espoused by the Liverpool owners, Lawrenson believes.

“Whoever it is will have to buy into the mindset of the American owners – they want success, but their model is to try to get that by signing younger players they can train up and, sometimes, sell on”, the former defender wrote in his column for the BBC.
