The odds on Brendan Rodgers making a quick return to Premier League management following his sacking by Liverpool yesterday have been halved following a flurry of bets.

Rodgers had his contract terminated by Liverpool following yesterday's 1-1 draw away at local rivals Everton.

He has quickly been linked with taking the vacant managerial job at Sunderland and following a stream of bets, the odds on him taking another job in the Premier League before the end of the season are now just 4/1 with well-known bookmaker Ladbrokes.

Rodgers is priced at 10/1 to take over at Sunderland, with Sam Allardyce the 6/5 favourite for the Stadium of Light role.

Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue said: "The early money suggests plenty believe Rodgers will resurface in the Premier League before the end of the season. We also think there are one or two managers who may be getting twitchy during the international break too and it's not a certainty no one else goes before domestic action resumes."

Further down the betting, Burnley manager Sean Dyche is priced at 4/1 for the Black Cats job, while exit Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is a 9/2 option.

Ex-Inter coach Walter Mazzarri and Manchester City youth coach Patrick Vieira are both ahead of Rodgers in the betting at 6/1 and 8/1 respectively.

Rodgers is reported to be receiving a payoff of £7m for his sacking from his Liverpool post, meaning he has no immediate need to jump back into work.
