Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan feels the Whites need to keep faith with Uwe Rosler, comparing his situation with that of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

Leeds lost at home 2-0 to Birmingham City at the weekend and have not managed a win at Elland Road under Rosler this season. They now sit a lowly 16th in the Championship table with just eleven points from ten games.

While Rosler has been backed by club owner Massimo Cellino, the Italian is renowned for his trigger happy approach to hiring and firing head coaches.

Whelan feels everyone at the club must get behind Rosler, as now is a time for the German to stand up, in much the same way as is required with Mourinho at Chelsea as the Blues are in freefall.

"At the moment it seems like when we do concede we run out of ideas. But you have got to stick behind Uwe Rosler, of course, and it’s probably as frustrating for Uwe as it is for all of us – the players, the fans, the supporters", he wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"This is something that he’s got to figure out and this is where your managerial skills come into play when you are down there like that.

"We have seen it with Jose Mourinho – he’s a having a difficult time – and this is where you stand up and are accounted for, and not just as an individual manager, but as a group and as a club", Whelan added.

Leeds' next match is also at Elland Road, with Championship leaders Brighton set to provide the opposition before a Wednesday trip to London to lock horns with Fulham.

Rosler's men round off October by travelling to face Bolton Wanderers and then hosting Blackburn Rovers.
