Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone feels that his team should have grabbed all three points in last night’s Madrid derby against Real Madrid, saying that his charges had more opportunities through the course of the match than their rivals.

Real Madrid took an early lead in the match as Karim Benzema connected with an exquisite cross from Dani Carvajal, but after the substitution of the right-back due to an injury in the first half, his replacement Alvaro Arbeloa conceded possession that ultimately resulted in an equaliser from Luciano Vietto that gave the hosts a point from the encounter.

As a consequence of the draw Los Blancos are now second in the table behind Villarreal, while Los Rojiblancos stayed fifth on 13 points.

Simeone believes that after a difficult start his team grew into the game and by the time the final whistle was blown they deserved more from the game than the solitary point.

"The team had opportunities in the first half, except for the first 10-12 minutes. One from [Angel] Correa and the penalty”, he was quoted as saying by Marca.

“And they found the back of the net, which put them more at ease.

“We were looking for a way to turn round a game that had become uncomfortable, and we came into our own in the second half, getting stronger as it went on. Then came the equaliser and it all ended with a fine save from their 'keeper.

“The feeling is that we dropped two points and came close to winning a match in which we had more opportunities than they did."
