Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he was convinced that Sergio Ramos would stay put at the club despite being linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer.

Ramos has spent over a decade at the Spanish giants and was reported to be bent on leaving the side for Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

However, he stayed put at the club and later signed a new contract to disappoint Louis van Gaal's Red Devils.

Benitez, who has taken charge of Los Blancos following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, has said that he always believed that Ramos would not be leaving Real Madrid.

“I never feared he’d move to Manchester”, the manager said on talkshow El Larguero on the Cadena SER network.
