Former Manchester United winger David Beckham has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson will always remain a huge influence on his life.

Beckham was the part of the famous batch of Manchester United academy products, which included players such as Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Phil Neville, that won the FA Youth Cup in 1992.

Like his famous peers, Beckham went on to become a first team regular at Old Trafford and won multiple league titles and a Champions League crown.

Ferguson played an integral role in bringing through that famous batch of Manchester United academy products and moulding them into title winners.

And while Beckham did not leave Old Trafford on the best of terms with his former manager, he insisted that the Scot remains an integral figure in his life.

The former Real Madrid man revealed that he still has the same reverence for him as he had when he first arrived at Manchester United as a young boy and believes his feeling will never go away.

"When you are a kid, you need someone to look up to, someone to aspire to be”, Beckham told the club’s official website.

“I left London at a very young age and I needed a father figure and he was that person. It’s what his reputation is all about – that fear, but he's also a man that you have so much respect for, that you want to win for and want to play for.

“I don’t think that will ever go away, that is just how it is."

Ferguson will manage David Beckham once again at Old Trafford when he captains a Great Britain and Ireland XI against a World XI in a charity game on 14th November, to raise money for UNICEF.
