Rangers starlet Fraser Aird has received a call-up for the Canada national team for their upcoming friendly against Ghana.

Aird has risen through the youth ranks of the Ibrox outfit and has gone on to represent the Scottish giants in 85 matches so far. He has scored 12 times and also has 17 assists against his name for the Gers.

The 20-year-old has also represented Scotland at Under-17 and Under-19 levels, and the Toronto-born midfielder has now earned a call-up to the Canada national team for their upcoming friendly fixture against African powerhouses Ghana. The match is scheduled to be played on 14th October.

Talking about the selection of the youngster in his side, Canada national team boss Benito Floro has said that his call-up of Aird is in line with his attempt to give youngsters a chance to prove themselves in order to be in the reckoning for selection for the 2018 World Cup due to be held in Russia.

“It is always important to provide an opportunity to new players to be integrated into the team from a tactical and social point of view”, the manager told the Canada Soccer website.
