West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has heaped praise on goalkeeper Adrian, saying the custodian has it in him to make the Spanish national team for the Euro 2016 finals.

Adrian has been plying his trade at Upton Park since 2013 when he arrived from Spanish La Liga club Real Betis and has gone on to become the number 1 at the east London outfit. He has made 77 appearances for the Hammers and has kept a total of 19 clean sheets.

The goalkeeper recently signed a new contract with West Ham and Gold feels that tying their prized possession down shows the ambitions of the Hammers.

“I am thrilled that the club were able to announce that fans favourite Adrian has signed a new contract to stay with us”, Gold wrote on his club’s website.

“We are showing that we want to keep our best players and he is an exceptional goalkeeper.

“He has a love for the game and is desperate to win. He shows so much passion and has a good grasp of English.

"The relationship he has with the Hammers fans is very special.”

The Spain national team have been blessed with great goalkeepers with the likes of Iker Casillas, De Gea and Pepe Reina vying for a spot in Vicente del Bosque’s side.

And Gold believes that if Adrian keeps performing at a high level, he can make the Spanish national team for next summer’s European Championship due to be held in France.

“He would probably get into any other European national team, but Spain are blessed with quality 'keepers.

“However, if he keeps performing the way he has so far this season, he stands every chance of getting a late call-up for the Euro finals."
