Former Real Madrid boss and Liverpool-linked Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he wasn’t sure how long his tenure would last at the Santiago Bernabeu outfit as the club have a history of getting rid of their managers when they fail to win silverware.

Ancelotti took charge of Los Blancos in the summer of 2013 when he came in place of current Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, and guided the club to their much coveted tenth European Cup – La Decima. He also won the Copa del Rey in his first season in the Spanish top flight.

However, he failed to replicate the success in the following season as his team couldn't defend the Champions League and finished second behind fierce rivals Barcelona in the league standings.

It led to the sacking of the much travelled Italian and he has been on a sabbatical since.

The Italian has revealed that he was aware his tenure would be uncertain as Real Madrid have a low tolerance for managers who don’t deliver consistently.

"Madrid sacked me because in my final year we didn't win the league or the Champions League”, he said in an interview with Le Parisien.

“We only won the Club World Cup and the European Super Cup.

“That is their philosophy.

“When I joined Real Madrid I knew it could last a month, a year, or three or five, depending on the titles won."
