Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has refused to be drawn on what impact his former coach Jurgen Klopp will have at Liverpool.

Hummels played under Klopp for Dortmund until the end of last season, at which time the coach departed for pastures new after feeling he had taken the club as far as he could.

Klopp, who guided Dortmund and Hummels to two Bundesliga titles, is now set to take over at Liverpool and could well be announced as the club's new manager on Friday.

Indeed, a three-year deal is reported to be ready for the German to sign as he succeeds Brendan Rodgers, sacked on Sunday evening.

Hummels was asked at a press conference today about what impact Klopp may have at Anfield, but the defender did not want to be drawn into specifics while the news is not yet official.

"Is this official? No… Okay. I won't comment", he said.

The centre-back was though willing to praise Klopp as a coach and says the 48-year-old is someone who is obsessed with football.

"He's a fantastic coach, no doubt. He lives, breathes and eats football every day."
