Juan Mata has insisted that he never expected any problems to develop once David de Gea returned to the fold at Manchester United after the transfer window.

The Spanish goalkeeper was on the verge of leaving the club on transfer deadline day, but the deal collapsed after Real Madrid failed to file the paperwork in time with the Spanish authorities.

Following the events of the summer, De Gea signed a new contract with Manchester United and has recently revealed that he is feeling loved and respected at Old Trafford.

Many were expecting some kind of fall-out from the goalkeeper’s failed transfer to Real Madrid on deadline day, but Mata revealed that he knew nothing was going to happen.

He insisted everything is back to normal between the club and De Gea and revealed the warm reception the goalkeeper received from the Old Trafford faithful on his return to the team.

“I knew there would be no problems with De Gea”, Mata was quoted as saying by Marca.

“Everything is back to normal. When he returned and headed towards the goal at Old Trafford, the crowd applauded him.

“They know he is a great 'keeper, who has given so much good stuff.”

De Gea has reestablished his position as the first choice goalkeeper in Louis van Gaal’s team and has edged new signing Sergio Romero to the fringes.
