Georginio Wijnaldum believes that Newcastle United have been playing good football under manager Steve McClaren this season, despite not having the results to show for it.

The Magpies splashed the cash to snap up the Netherlands international from PSV Eindhoven in the summer and Wijnaldum arrived at St. James' Park on the back of winning the Dutch Eredivisie title.

McClaren's side sit bottom of the Premier League without a win this season and with a goal difference of minus eleven.

But Wijnaldum does not feel their displays on the pitch have been as poor as their league placing would suggest.

"I think the games we have played have been pretty nice, but we just haven't had the results", he told RTV Rijnmond.

"And now that is important because we are bottom, which is not so good."

Wijnaldum admits that in the Premier League all teams are capable of beating each other, but the midfielder is enjoying the chance to pit his wits against world-class performers.

"Anyone can beat anyone else, everything is to be expected in the league. You just need to see the results.

"You play against world-class players, while the lesser teams are also good. It's a tough league."

Newcastle are next in action at home to Norwich City after the international break and the pressure is mounting on McClaren to turn the ship around at St. James' Park.
