Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker feels that the Gunners need to repeat their performance against Manchester United more often against their rivals.

The Gunners completely took apart the Red Devils in their last league fixture at the Emirates Stadium as they ran rampant over the visitors and took a 3-0 lead by the 20th minute. They kept Louis van Gaal’s men at bay and eventually emerged with a resounding 3-0 victory.

The win over Manchester United came on the back of an unexpected 3-2 defeat at the hands of Olympiacos in a Champions League encounter that led to many questioning the Gunners’ credentials for a Premier League title challenge.

However, Mertesacker feels that his team need to repeat their performance against the Red Devils more often and try to build some consistency in the Premier League.

“We need to focus on ourselves and manage to do that in the first 20 minutes like we did against Manchester United and defend the way did together as a unit”, the 2014 World Cup winner told Arsenal Player.

“You could see all the doubts that came after the game against Olympiacos go if we remind ourselves that we are really good.

“We need to have a certain consistency [in the league] otherwise it is going to be difficult.

“But, if you get wins against the good teams then it will breed confidence for the whole team and we look forward to the next few Premier League games now.”

Arsenal will resume their Premier League campaign with a visit to Watford on 17th October post the ongoing international break.
