Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola will take the reins of Manchester City next summer, according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo.

Guardiola has been at the helm of the Bavarian giants since the summer of 2013 and has guided them to successive Bundesliga titles as well as a triumphant DFB Pokal campaign thus far. His team are currently sitting atop the league standings, having built up a seven-point lead over second placed Borussia Dortmund.

The Catalan, who won two Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles during his four-year spell at Barcelona before he went to Germany, has remained non-committal about his future in Bavaria beyond the ongoing campaign.

His three-year contract will be up at the end of the current season, and it has now been claimed that Guardiola has a verbal agreement with his friend and Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain to take up the managerial post at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens are currently managed by Manuel Pellegrini, but he has failed to guide them to success in European competitions and they remain intent on getting the former Barcelona midfielder.

Guardiola’s stint at the Allianz Arena hasn’t been a smooth sailing as he has been criticised for the way his team have folded in their last two Champions League semi-finals.

He has also attracted flak for the style of play espoused at the club as well as his recruitment policy.

It remains to be seen if he indeed takes up the Manchester City post or extends his stay in Bavaria.
