Former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta believes that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has the wherewithal and the nous to successfully come out of the current hole he finds himself in.

Mourinho’s side are doing miserably this season, after a domestic double winning campaign last term where they comfortably won the Premier League title after a wait of five years and also collected the League Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur in the final at Wembley.

This season, they have lost four of their first eight league games – winning two and drawing the same number – and are 16th in the table as a consequence, giving Manchester City a ten-point lead early in the season.

Chelsea’s problems have also continued in the Champions League as they lost at Mourinho’s old stomping ground, FC Porto, in their last group match.

Speaking exclusively to Inside Futbol, when Mendieta was asked what he would do to salvage Chelsea’s plight, he replied: “It’s situation inside the club.
