Former Leeds United player and manager Gary McAllister has departed his role as Liverpool first team coach.

McAllister took training at the club's Melwood training base earlier today, but was then informed he could not continue in his position due to the imminent appointment of Jurgen Klopp.

The Scot was offered another role at Anfield, according to the Press Association.

McAllister only joined Liverpool this summer as first team coach under Brendan Rodgers, following the departure of Mike Marsh.

The Scot may be open to a position in Yorkshire, as he still lives in the Leeds area, if he leaves Anfield.

Klopp is bringing his own backroom staff to Anfield, something which means assistant boss Sean O'Driscoll, along with other backroom members Glen Driscoll and Chris Davies, have left the Merseyside club.

The German is expected to sign a three-year deal.
