Jurgen Klopp's willingness to take over at Liverpool stems from the fact he has been a Reds fan since his childhood, it has been claimed.

Liverpool are on the brink of stunning world football by tempting one of the world's most sought-after managers to succeed Brendan Rodgers, despite having no Champions League football on the menu and a wage bill which is smaller than their top four rivals.




Klopp though has emotional reasons for being willing to accept Liverpool's offer.

Indeed, according to German daily Bild, Klopp is a Liverpool fan and has been one since his childhood.
 


He was memorably captured touching the 'This Is Anfield' sign when Borussia Dortmund played Liverpool at Anfield in a friendly fixture.

Klopp is now keen to do all he can to restore Liverpool to the greatness he watched the Reds enjoy throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, a period which yielded a remarkable four European Cups.

Liverpool have fallen badly from those lofty heights in recent times. When taken over by Fenway Sports Group the Reds were ranked 5th by UEFA. Now they are just 54th in UEFA's club rankings.
