Liverpool CEO Ian Ayre has said that the appointment of Jurgen Klopp at the helm of the Reds shows the ambition of the club as the German is a manager at the top of his game.

Klopp has been given the reins of the Merseyside giants following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers after his team could only get a draw away at Goodison Park against Everton last weekend.

The Reds were also linked with a move for former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, but chose to go with the 48-year-old.

The German, who has previously managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund and won back-to-back league titles with the latter, will lead the Reds in his first game at the club against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane post the international break.

Ayre feels that Liverpool have always displayed that they are ambitious and Klopp’s appointment is another reflection of the fact.

“The ownership group have continued to show ambition, in the investment they made in the club initially, the investment they have made in the team, the continued support across the whole business and the new Main Stand”, the CEO told his club’s site.

“This is just another indication of that. When we set about looking for the right solution for a new manager, ambition was right at the top, and I would say Jurgen is right at the top of his game.

“So it fits well.

"His personality fits very much with this club, this city and our fans.

“That combination shows that the owners set an ambition to get their man and achieved it.”
