Championship outfit Rotherham United have confirmed the appointment of former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn as their new manager.

After a prolonged stint with Leeds, first as an academy coach and then as the first team manager, the 50-year-old eventually left his post after the end of last season to be replaced by Uwe Rosler.

Redfearn had in fact been on the lookout for a fresh opportunity in order to bounce back into management and had also been linked with taking over at Doncaster Rovers.

At the New York Stadium, Redfearn will be replacing caretaker manager Eric Black, who had been doing the job after former manager Steve Evans left his post last month.

The former Leeds United boss has put pen-to-paper to a three-year contract with the Millers and will stay at the helm of the club until the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Championship club while confirming the appointment revealed on their official website: "Rotherham United are delighted to announce the appointment of Neil Redfearn as the club’s first team manager.

"The former Leeds United boss has penned an agreement until the end of the 2017/2018 season to join the Millers, and he will be officially unveiled at a press conference at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Monday afternoon.

"Redfearn came out on top after a meticulous selection process where he impressed Chairman Tony Stewart and the Board of Directors with his vision for the future of the club."

Redfearn will have a job on his hands at his new club as they are currently placed in a disappointing 21st position in the league table, leading relegation battlers Bolton Wanderers in terms of goal difference.
