Real Madrid have suffered a setback as striker Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the France national team’s upcoming fixture against Denmark due to a hamstring injury.

Benzema has been in prolific form for Los Blancos this season and is the leading goalscorer in La Liga with his tally of six goals.

The forward’s injury is suspected to rule him out of action for the next three weeks, which is expected to be a considerable blow for the Spanish giants.

He was part of the France national team during last night’s encounter against Armenia in a friendly encounter and went off injured. He has been ruled out of Sunday’s clash against Denmark.

As a consequence of his injury, the forward has been released by the France national team.

"Given that he will be unavailable to face Denmark next Sunday, the player has been released from international duty and will leave the squad this afternoon", read a statement issued by the FFF.

Real Madrid are currently sitting second in the Spanish league standings behind Villarreal as they attempt to win the league title.

They will hope to see Benzema back to full fitness as soon as possible.
