Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is eyeing a berth in the Spain squad for next summer’s European Championship.

The midfielder secured a regular spot in Louis van Gaal’s team towards the end of last season, but the arrival of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin this summer has again curtailed his role in the team this term.

However, Herrera is not losing heart and he believes that his ambition to find a place in the Spain squad will help him to fight for a place in the Manchester United team this season.

The midfielder feels he has the quality to be in the Spain squad and is ready to play anywhere for Manchester United to earn a berth in the national team.

"I know we have, in Spain, maybe the best midfielders in the world right now but I think I have the quality to be in the national team”, Herrera told MUTV.

“I will fight for it. I fought last season for that and I am trying to do it again. I think I have the quality to be in it and I am showing that.

"I think I am ready to help the team [at United], help my team-mates, and I am going to play wherever the manager wants me to play," he added.

"So I am doing the right things to get into the national team but, of course, the [international] manager will decide.

Herrera’s big goal is to be in the Spain team that will fly to France for next summer’s European Championship and the midfielder is ready to put in the hard yards to achieve his ambition.

"Of course, it's the next dream, the next step for me.

“I know it's difficult but I will try to do my best to be involved in the European Championship."

Herrera is yet to make his debut for Spain but has been a regular for his country in youth football.

The midfielder will have to first secure a starting spot in the Manchester United side, as he has made only five starts for Van Gaal’s men this season.
