Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that playing at home gives a significant advantage to a team, provided the side's fans are on side.

The Gunners are currently sitting second in the Premier League standings behind Manchester City with a tally of 16 points from their first eight games in the league. They are just two points adrift of the 2012 and 2014 English champions.

Arsenal were in rampant form in their last home game at the Emirates Stadium as they hammered Manchester United 3-0. The Gunners ran into a 3-0 lead in just 20 minutes and kept Louis van Gaal’s men at bay to secure all three points at home.

Wenger, who has been at the helm of the north London outfit for close to 20 years, believes that home advantage gives a significant boost to a side and it has proven to be the case via a scientific study.

“In a variety of sports, they came to the scientific conclusion that the biggest advantage of the team that plays at home is the support of the crowd”, the manager told Arsenal Player.

“That’s not my impression; it’s the result of a scientific study.

“They eliminated all the other factors that could come in. It was a simple conclusion – it’s the home support that gives the advantage of the team.

“This home support can also turn against the home team if you don’t start well and if you are 1-0 down, but it also shows that influence is very strong.”

Arsenal will travel in their next fixture against Watford post the international break.
