Liverpool youngster Corey Whelan insists that it was exciting for him and his team-mates to play in front of new manager Jurgen Klopp.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss was appointed the man in charge at Anfield earlier in the month after the sacking of former manager Brendan Rodgers following the 1-1 draw against Everton.

Klopp in fact was in attendance for the club's Under-18 action against Stoke City the Kirby Academy on Saturday, inspiring the junior side to a 1-0 victory against the Potters.

While the importance of the win did not go unnoticed by any of the players, they also took time to express their excitement about playing under the 48-year-old manager.

According to Wilson, every single player at academy level has been trying to impress the new manager in order to get the opportunity to train at Melwood.

“It’s exciting because he’s new in and everyone is trying to make a first impression on him and trying to get our way up to Melwood", Whelan told his club's official website.

"Knowing that he was watching us was a great feeling."

The Liverpool Under-18 side are currently placed fifth in the North Group of the Under-18 Premier League, having managed to accumulate 16 points from eight matches.
